Learn to deliver EMS muscle sculpting safely, honestly and professionally. This blended course teaches high intensity electromagnetic technology with radio frequency on two named machines, the EMSzero and the WL-EMT80S, with the emphasis on who should not be treated, what the treatment can honestly achieve, and what you may and may not say to a client.
Accredited CPD course: 12 CPD credits
The CPD Group accredited activity #1011582. Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is an approved CPD provider (#777800). This is a CPD course: it is not a regulated qualification and carries no qualification level.
What this course covers
- Anatomy and physiology for muscle sculpting: muscle, motor units, fat, skin, circulation and lymph.
- How the technology works: electromagnetic induction, the supramaximal contraction and what the radio frequency heat adds.
- Your two machines, their handles, modes and controls, and how to set up, build intensity, shut down and clean each one.
- Consultation, absolute and relative contraindications, informed consent, measuring and photographs.
- Placement, belting and running a session for the abdomen, buttocks, arms and thighs.
- Aftercare, contra-actions, the results timeline and managing a disappointed client.
- Claims, advertising rules and the UK law that applies to this treatment.
How it works
The course is 12 hours: 8 hours of home learning in this academy, then a 4 hour practical day, 10:00 to 14:00, in the clinic at 26 The Avenue, Southampton. Your written assessment is marked on the practical day, where you treat models with your trainer beside you and are observed on your final model. Your certificate, naming the machine you trained on, is issued on the practical day once the written assessment, the practical observation and your case study records are all complete. Home learning alone does not complete the course.

Who can take this course
Aged 18 or over. Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology or an equivalent recognised qualification (essential), and Level 3 Beauty Therapy, or registration as a healthcare professional, or equivalent experience (essential). Before you treat clients: device-specific training on the machine you will use, and public liability and professional indemnity insurance covering EMS body contouring. Previous body treatment experience is desirable but not required. Recognition of prior learning is accepted for the essential requirements, but never for the practical element.
What you will learn
- Name the three types of muscle and say which one you treat
- Describe how a skeletal muscle is built, from whole muscle to myofibril
- State the law of electromagnetic induction
- Explain why only a changing magnetic field induces a current
- Compare the electromagnetic output and the radio frequency output
- Explain what synchronous means
- Describe the EMSzero and name its main parts
- State what each part is for
- Describe the WL-EMT80S and name its main parts
- State what each part is for
- Explain why the consultation matters more than pressing start
- List the seven stages of a consultation in order
- List the checks to complete before the client lies down
- Describe the device-specific checks for each machine
- Give the seven aftercare points with their reasons
- Explain why aftercare advice should include the reason
- State the rule that underpins all claims
- Name the bodies that look at what you say
- Explain the status of this appendix and when to re-check it
- Name the bodies that regulate parts of your work
- Explain why the forms are evidence
- List the six client forms
