What this course is

This is a CPD accredited course in EMS muscle sculpting, also called HIEMT (High Intensity Electromagnetic Technology), with radio frequency. A focused electromagnetic field stimulates the nerves that supply a muscle group and produces strong contractions that a client cannot achieve by tensing the muscle voluntarily. It is designed to work on muscle rather than fat, so it sits alongside your existing body treatments.

It is for beauty therapists, aesthetic practitioners and healthcare professionals who want to add the treatment to their clinic. It is taught on two machines, the EMSzero and the WL-EMT80S. Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is an independent training provider and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any manufacturer of branded body contouring systems.

What you get for your price

  • Online lessons on the academy for the 8 hours of home learning
  • Narrated videos with diagrams and downloadable slide decks
  • Quizzes and written activities to check your understanding
  • Your student training manual and workbook, sent to you before your practical day
  • A pack of client form templates to adapt for your own clinic, including consent forms
  • A 4 hour supervised practical day on live models, with treatment on four areas: abdomen, glutes, thighs and arms
  • Accredited CPD certificate (12 credits) and a signed practical record
  • Ongoing mentor support after the course from your trainer

How the course works, step by step

  3. Book your practical day. Contact us to arrange a date.
  4. Practical day (4 hours, 10:00 to 14:00). Your trainer marks your written work, demonstrates the treatment, and you treat models with your trainer beside you.

That makes 12 hours of guided learning and 12 CPD credits.

Entry requirements, insurance and scope of practice

  • A regulated Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology, or equivalent
  • Level 3 Beauty Therapy, or registration as a healthcare professional, or equivalent experience
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Device-specific training on the machine you will use, before you treat
  • Public liability and professional indemnity insurance covering EMS body contouring, before you treat. Check with your insurer before you book

We accept Recognition of Prior Learning for the entry requirements, but never for the practical element. You do not need Core of Knowledge for this course. This is CPD in one application and does not qualify you to carry out other body contouring treatments such as cryolipolysis, cavitation or injectable fat dissolving. Always work within your training, your insurance and the law.

The practical element

The practical day runs from 10:00 to 14:00 at 26 The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XL. Skintastic provides the models at our Southampton venue. You treat either four models, one area each (about 40 minutes per model), or two models with two areas each, so that the abdomen, glutes, arms and thighs are all covered. Each is a full model journey: pre-treatment check, consent, measurements and photographs, treatment, aftercare and the record. Your final model is observed one to one. The day is taught on the EMSzero, and if you own or are buying a WL-EMT80S your trainer also goes through its controls and settings.

Practical training cannot be done online: it has to be completed in person, on a live model.

Assessment and your certificate

Written assessment (Parts A to C) is completed in your workbook before the practical day and marked by your trainer on the day. Part A is 20 questions with a pass mark of 16 out of 20. The practical is an observation of 18 competences, all of which must be achieved, plus your case study records signed off on the day. Your certificate names the machine you trained on. This is accredited CPD, not a regulated qualification, and it carries no qualification level.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the EMS muscle sculpting course cost?

The price is £299 and no VAT is charged. You can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, and Klarna and Clearpay may also be offered at checkout, subject to status.

How long does the course take?

It is 12 hours in total: 8 hours of online home learning plus a 4 hour practical day from 10:00 to 14:00 at our Southampton academy.

Can I study at my own pace?

Yes. The 8 hours of home learning are self-paced and done in your own time. They must be finished before your practical day. Only the practical day has a fixed date. If you need to know how long you have to finish, ask us.

What qualifications do I need first?

You need a regulated Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology (or equivalent) and Level 3 Beauty Therapy, healthcare professional registration or equivalent experience. You must be 18 or over. If you are unsure whether yours qualifies, contact us before you book. We accept Recognition of Prior Learning for the entry requirements.

Is the course accredited and how do I check?

Yes. It is CPD accredited by The CPD Group, activity #1011582, worth 12 CPD credits. You can check it yourself on The CPD Register using the link in the CPD accreditation section above. It is accredited CPD, not a regulated qualification, and it does not carry a qualification level.

Will I get a certificate and when?

Yes. Your accredited CPD certificate, naming the machine you trained on, and a signed practical record are issued on the practical day, once your written assessment and practical observation have been passed. No certificate is issued for the home learning alone.

Will my insurer cover me?

We cannot promise that. You need public liability and professional indemnity insurance that covers EMS body contouring before you treat clients. Check with your insurer before you book. Most will want to see your certificate and the device you use.

Do I need to own a machine?

No. The practical day is taught on the EMSzero, the machine we use in our clinic, and the course is written around the EMSzero and the WL-EMT80S. You do need training on the machine you will use in your own clinic.

Can I use any machine after the course?

The course is taught on the EMSzero and the WL-EMT80S. If you buy a different machine, the handle names, modes, intensity scales and contraindications will differ, so you will need training from that supplier as well.

Where is the practical day and how do I book it?

It is at Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd, 26 The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XL. Call 02381 946394 or email info@skintasticaesthetics.com to arrange your date. If you cannot get to Southampton, tell us before you book.

Who supplies the models?

Skintastic provides the models at our Southampton venue. Each model must pass the same contraindication screening as a paying client.

What support do I get?

You can contact us by phone or email at any point before the course, and ongoing mentor support after the course comes from the same person who taught it.

What if I do not pass first time?

If your trainer asks you to do something again, it is recorded as a “not yet”, not a failure. Your trainer writes down exactly what was not met. The written part can be picked up remotely, but the practical part has to be done in person on a live model. Ask us about any charge for a repeat.

Can I get a refund?

Please read our terms and conditions, or contact us before you buy and we will answer your question.

What do I bring on the practical day?

Bring your completed workbook, your certificates, photographic identification and your completed registration form.

Is VAT added to the price?

No. Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to the course price shown.

How long do I have access to the online lessons?

Your access to the online lessons lasts 12 months from the date of purchase.

Can I cancel and get a refund?

You have 14 days to cancel, but the right to cancel the online materials is lost once your access starts and you have ticked the box at checkout to agree to that. Once the 14 days have ended, courses are non refundable. Refunds that apply are paid to the original payment method within 14 days of us receiving your written cancellation. Full details are in our terms and conditions.

What if I need to move my practical day?

You may move your practical day once, free of charge, if you tell us in writing at least 14 days before it. After that, or if you do not attend, the day is treated as used, and a further date may be offered at our discretion for a rebooking fee of 25% of the price you paid.
