What this course is
Cryolipolysis, commonly called fat freezing, uses controlled cooling to reduce a localised, pinchable pocket of fat on areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, upper arms and bra line. It is a non-surgical contouring treatment, not a weight loss treatment, and results vary.
This CPD course is for beauty therapists and aesthetic practitioners holding Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology. It teaches the treatment science, how to select suitable clients and recognise those who are not, how to run a treatment from start to finish, and how to recognise and manage adverse reactions, including paradoxical adipose hyperplasia.

- Your practical date is arranged with you after you enrol.

Entry requirements, insurance and scope of practice
- A regulated Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology, or equivalent (essential)
- Level 3 beauty therapy qualification (preferred, not essential)
- Training on the cryolipolysis machine you will use, before you treat clients
- Insurance that names cryolipolysis, before you treat clients. Check with your insurer before you book
Before you treat paying clients, also check with your local authority whether a special treatments licence or registration is required at your premises, and have your machine serviced and its electrical safety checked. Recognition of Prior Learning is accepted for the Anatomy and Physiology requirement, never for the practical element.
The practical element
The training day runs from 09:30 to 15:30 at 26 The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XL. After a short theory review and a trainer demonstration you carry out three supervised treatments on three models, each with a full model set. Each model slot allows about 15 minutes for consultation and forms, 10 minutes to measure, photograph and mark, up to 45 minutes of treatment, and 5 minutes for massage and aftercare. Each treatment is observed and assessed against the practical checklist. The practical cannot be done online.
Assessment and your certificate
There are three parts. Part A is 26 multiple-choice questions with a pass mark of 21 out of 26. Part B is eleven written activities. Both are completed at home in your workbook and marked by your trainer on the training day. Part C is the practical checklist, observed on each of your three models, and every item must be achieved on all three. Your certificate is not issued until Parts A, B and C are passed and your three model sets are complete. It is accredited CPD, not a regulated qualification.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the fat freezing course cost?
The price is £499. You can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, and Klarna and Clearpay may also be offered at checkout, subject to status. Ask us if you want to know about VAT.
How long does the course take?
It is 8 hours in total: 3 hours of home study online, then a training day at our Southampton academy from 09:30 to 15:30. Lunch and breaks (60 minutes in all) are not counted.
Can I study at my own pace?
Yes. The home study is done in your own time and your written work is brought to the training day for marking. Only the training day has a fixed date. If you need to know how long you have to finish, ask us.
What qualification do I need first?
You need a regulated Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology (or equivalent). A Level 3 beauty therapy qualification is preferred but not essential. We accept Recognition of Prior Learning against the Anatomy and Physiology requirement, so send us your evidence before you book. If you are unsure, contact us.
Is the course accredited and how do I check?
Yes. It is CPD accredited by The CPD Group, activity #1011947, worth 8 CPD credits, and the accreditation is valid to 29 September 2029. Use the link in the CPD accreditation section above to check it on The CPD Register. It is accredited CPD, not a regulated qualification.
Will I get a certificate and when?
Yes. Your accredited CPD certificate is issued only when your written assessment is passed, all three practical observations are passed and your three model sets are complete. You also complete a CPD reflective record for your portfolio.
Will my insurer cover me?
We cannot promise that. Before you treat paying clients you need professional indemnity and public liability insurance that names cryolipolysis, because a general beauty policy may not cover it. Check with your insurer before you book.
Do I need to own a fat freezing machine?
The course teaches the treatment and its principles. Your own machine’s settings must always come from its manufacturer’s instructions, and you need training on the machine you will use. Ask us which machine is used on the training day.
Can I use any machine after the course?
The course is written for cryolipolysis in general. Temperatures, vacuum levels, cycle times and applicators differ between machines, and where this course and your device manual differ, your device manual takes precedence.
Where is the practical and how do I book it?
The training day is at Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd, 26 The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XL. Call 02381 946394 or email info@skintasticaesthetics.com to arrange your date.
Who supplies the models?
The practical is three supervised treatments on three models, each with a full model set. Skintastic supplies the models.
Is fat freezing a weight loss treatment?
No. It is a non-surgical contouring treatment for a localised, pinchable pocket of fat, not a weight loss treatment, and results vary. The course teaches you to explain this honestly to clients.
What support do I get?
You can ring or email us at any point before the course, and your trainer marks your work and gives feedback on the training day. Ask us about support after the course.
What if I do not pass first time?
Being referred is a “not yet”, not a failure. Your trainer writes down exactly what was not met, and you may be reassessed on that part alone. Written reassessment can be done remotely, but the practical must be in person on a live model. Ask us about any charge.
Can I get a refund?
Please read our terms and conditions, or contact us before you buy and we will answer your question.
Is VAT added to the price?
No. Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to the course price shown.
How long do I have access to the online lessons?
Your access to the online lessons lasts 12 months from the date of purchase.
Can I cancel and get a refund?
You have 14 days to cancel, but the right to cancel the online materials is lost once your access starts and you have ticked the box at checkout to agree to that. Once the 14 days have ended, courses are non refundable. Refunds that apply are paid to the original payment method within 14 days of us receiving your written cancellation. Full details are in our terms and conditions.
What if I need to move my practical day?
You may move your practical day once, free of charge, if you tell us in writing at least 14 days before it. After that, or if you do not attend, the day is treated as used, and a further date may be offered at our discretion for a rebooking fee of 25% of the price you paid.
