What this course is and who it is for

This CPD accredited course teaches cosmetic skin treatment with cold (non-thermal) and hot (thermal) plasma on the SkinCool+ dual plasma system. You learn how plasma is made from argon, what it does to skin, how strong the evidence is, and how to carry out cold plasma treatments with heads 1 to 6 and hot plasma treatments with heads 7 to 10 safely.

It is for qualified beauty and aesthetic practitioners: Level 3 therapists, skin specialists and clinic owners, advanced beauty practitioners, and nurses and medical aesthetic professionals. No previous experience in plasma is required. It is a cosmetic course: it does not teach you to treat any medical condition, and results vary between individuals. It is CPD, not a regulated qualification, and carries no qualification level.

Before and on your practical day

  • Complete all of the online theory before your practical day.
  • Wear your salon clothes or smart casual, because the training is clinical.
  • Your practical date is arranged with you after you enrol.
  • Lunch is provided on your practical day.

Entry requirements, insurance and scope of practice

  • A regulated Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology, or equivalent (essential).
  • Level 3 Beauty Therapy, registration as a healthcare professional, or equivalent experience (essential).
  • Aged 18 or over (essential).
  • Public liability and professional indemnity insurance naming plasma treatment, before you treat. Many insurers treat hot plasma as an advanced treatment with its own entry requirements.
  • Previous skin or advanced facial experience, such as microneedling or peels, is helpful but not required.

We accept Recognition of Prior Learning against the essential requirements, but never for the practical element. Please check with your own insurer that plasma treatments are covered before you buy: we cannot promise cover. Treatment must always be carried out within the scope of your training and insurance.

The practical element

The practical day runs from 09:00 to 17:30 in our clinic at 26 The Avenue, Southampton, on both handles of the SkinCool+. It includes a theory recap, room and machine set-up including the argon connection and leak check, a trainer demonstration of a full cold plasma facial, 90 minutes of supervised cold plasma practice on live models, a demonstration of a patch test and hot plasma treatment, and 100 minutes of supervised hot plasma practice, plus cleaning down and records. Skintastic provides the models at our Southampton venue. Timings may be adjusted by your trainer.

Assessment and your certificate

The written assessment has multiple choice questions, short answers and client scenarios, and you sit it on the practical day. You are also observed twice on live models: once for a cold plasma treatment and once for a hot plasma treatment, because being safe with one handle does not show you are safe with the other. Your certificate is issued only when both parts are complete and both observations are passed. If you are referred, you can be reassessed on that part alone.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the plasma course cost?

The course costs £399. Pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. Klarna and Clearpay may also be offered at checkout, subject to status.

How long does it take?

The course is 16 hours of guided learning and carries 16 CPD credits. That is 8 hours 25 minutes of home study with the online lessons and your workbook, plus one classroom day from 09:00 to 17:30 with 7 hours 35 minutes of teaching and practical time. Lunch and breaks are not counted.

Can I do it at my own pace?

Yes for the home study part, which you complete before your practical day. The practical day is a fixed date that we arrange with you. You must finish the home study before the day, and if you have not, you may need to rebook the practical.

What qualification do I need first?

You need a regulated Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology (or equivalent), and a Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification, registration as a healthcare professional, or equivalent experience. You must be 18 or over. No previous plasma experience is required, and a full introduction is included.

Is the course accredited and how do I check?

Yes. It is accredited by The CPD Group, activity #1018119, 16 CPD credits, and Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is an approved provider, number 777800. Use the CPD Register link in the accreditation section above to check it yourself.

Will I get a certificate, and when?

Yes. You receive an accredited CPD certificate and a signed practical record once both parts of the course are complete and both practical observations are passed. Ask us if you need to know the exact issue time.

Will my insurer cover me?

We cannot promise this. Many insurers treat hot plasma as an advanced treatment with its own entry requirements, so check with your insurer that plasma treatments are covered before you buy, not afterwards.

Do I need a plasma machine?

No. Device training on the SkinCool+ is included and you learn on the clinic’s machine on the practical day. You can also buy the SkinCool+ and an argon gas cylinder at a discounted training rate if you wish. Ask us for details.

Can I use any plasma machine?

The course is written for the SkinCool+. If you will use a different plasma device, you also need training on that device from its supplier before you treat clients.

Where is the practical day?

In our clinic at 26 The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XL. This is the only day you come into the classroom.

How do I book the practical day?

Buy the course online and then contact us to arrange your date. Call 02381 946394 or email info@skintasticaesthetics.com. Spaces are limited.

Who provides the models?

Skintastic provides the models at our Southampton venue. If you ask us to deliver the course at your own premises, you would be asked to source models and we would tell you what is suitable.

What support do I get?

Ongoing mentor support comes with the course. You can ring or email with a client question at any point after the course. This is included and not an extra.

Does the course teach me to treat medical conditions?

No. It is a cosmetic course. Acne, fungal nails, eczema, psoriasis, warts, wounds and hair loss are medical conditions. The course explains why you may not claim to treat them and what you can say instead, and teaches you to recognise and refer.

What if I do not pass first time?

Being referred is a ‘not yet’. Your trainer writes down exactly what was not met and what to do. Written reassessment can be done remotely, and practical reassessment must be in person on a live model. Ask us about any fee.

Can I get a refund?

Please see our terms and conditions, or ask us before you buy.

Is VAT added to the price?

No. Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to the course price shown.

How long do I have access to the online lessons?

Your access to the online lessons lasts 12 months from the date of purchase.

Can I cancel and get a refund?

You have 14 days to cancel, but the right to cancel the online materials is lost once your access starts and you have ticked the box at checkout to agree to that. Once the 14 days have ended, courses are non refundable. Refunds that apply are paid to the original payment method within 14 days of us receiving your written cancellation. Full details are in our terms and conditions.

What if I need to move my practical day?

You may move your practical day once, free of charge, if you tell us in writing at least 14 days before it. After that, or if you do not attend, the day is treated as used, and a further date may be offered at our discretion for a rebooking fee of 25% of the price you paid.
